The Journey to the west Character in Dragon ball that are loosely from "The Journey to the west"

Son Go Ku = Sun Wu Kong
Kuririn/Krillin = Tripitaka
Uuron/Oolong = Ju Pa Chieh
Ox-king = Bull demon king
Tenshinhan/Tien = Erh-lang
King Yama = Yama

Dragon ball story is loosely based on one of the most famous and one of the oldest Wuxia fictions,The Journey to the west (Hsi Yu Chi)

It was written by Wu Cheng-en, who lived between 1505-1580 A.D.
The story is about a monk, Tripitaka aka Hsuan Tsang, who travel from China to INdia to obtain Buddhist suttra.
He has four disciple, Sun Wu Kong (The monkey), Ju Pa Chieh (The pig), Wu-ching (the sand demon), and the white horse (who is infact the dragon)

Sun Wu kong, the monkey, is the hero in The Journey to the west. He is not an ordinary monkey.
He was born from a stone egg that fructified by the breath of the wind. When he was born his eyes shone golden streaks of lightening. He travelled for eighteen years by land and sea to find his master. During his travels the monkey had acquired human attributes and dress like a human.

The monkey learnt to fly through the air (using a white cloud) and change into 72 different forms. With one jump he could cover about 36,000 miles.
He use a Iron cudgel (rod) as his weapon. The cudel is very heavy (more than 7,200 lbs) and no one else could use it. It can reduce or extend itself as his wish.

Does it sound familiar now? If you watch dragon ball, there is no question that Son GoKu is based on Sun Wu Kong.
